Learn How to Use Steps.org

Get the most out of every prompt in 4 simple steps. Works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and any AI chatbot.

1. Find a Prompt

Browse the collection by category, tag, or topic. Each prompt is designed for a specific career situation — whether you've just been laid off, you're optimising your job search, or you're changing industries entirely.

Not sure where to start? The Layoff Recovery category has immediate action prompts. Job Search Strategy covers resumes, LinkedIn, and outreach. Career Change helps you navigate switching industries.

2. Copy the Prompt

Click the copy button on any prompt page. The full prompt text — carefully crafted to get useful responses from AI — is copied to your clipboard.

3. Fill in the Brackets

Each prompt has [BRACKETS] where you add your specific details. Your experience, your target role, your constraints. The more context you provide, the more tailored the AI's response will be.

Be specific. "5 years in B2B SaaS sales, targeting product management roles at Series A startups" works far better than "some sales experience, want to switch careers."

4. Paste into Any AI

These prompts work with any AI chatbot: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity — whatever you prefer. Paste the prompt, hit send, get personalised guidance.

Deep Research Mode

Some prompts work best with Deep Research enabled — a feature in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI tools that lets the AI search the web for real-time information. This is especially useful for prompts about:

  • Company research and market intelligence
  • Current job market trends and salary data
  • Finding hidden opportunities and niche roles
  • Industry-specific information

When a prompt benefits from Deep Research, you'll see a note on the prompt page. In ChatGPT, look for "Deep Research" or "Browse" mode. In Perplexity, this is on by default.

Pro Tips

  • Have a conversation. The first response is just the start. Ask follow-up questions to dig deeper into anything useful.
  • Try different AIs. Each has its own style and strengths. Claude tends to be more thoughtful, ChatGPT more comprehensive, Perplexity better for current information.
  • Save what works. Copy responses you find valuable. Build your own playbook of personalised career guidance.
  • Iterate on the prompt. If the response isn't quite right, add more context or be more specific about what you're looking for.

That's It

No accounts, no subscriptions, no complexity. Just prompts that turn AI into a useful thinking partner for your career transition. Start browsing.
